Re: PC Help
From what I've heard, Intel's integrated graphics are horrible for Minecraft (and in general). You will need a discrete graphics card whether you go with the i3 or the FX-6300. Additionally, the Intel has a locked speed, whereas the AMD can be overclocked.

Re: Post your most anticipated games of 2014
Dwarf Fortress supposedly is getting a pretty significant update some time this year. Yes, it's not a new title, but the updates are infrequent enough that I feel it's worth noting. Star Citizen should have its first release with gameplay - its developers have been working on the netcode needed for ...

Re: Odd vs even
I prefer odd spacing. Portals are the only thing that throws me off, since they have to be even, but I usually get around that by setting them into a side wall.
And to the expanded question: Inside out. I start with the build, then consider looks once it's done.

That's a rough spot to be in. Not too many games are made with Macs in mind. You're pretty much limited to indie and open-source games. OpenTTD will run on them, if you're looking for a management game.
Take a look at sites like Kongregate as well - flash games can be pretty good.

Re: Betatest of Asteroidfield 3D
Haven't tried the actual game yet, but poking around in the menus, I came across a few things to look at. Initial menu: Tooltips for starting or joining a server say "mashine" instead of "machine" One of the menus you can choose is called "Sever", when I assume you mean...

Re: Better Than Starting Manned (Flower's WIP KSP mod )
As far as I can tell, it's just a nuisance, in that when you quit to the menu, you have to back out a couple of layers before you can actually quit. I really can't figure out what motivated that. Wish I knew. Unless they add the ability to access your full settings page from any of the game scenes,...

Re: Custom Map for BTW - Seeking Input
Not necessarily, Mud - you could probably do it in MCEdit, if you know the metadata values and the rough levels at which the transitions are. It wouldn't be a fast process, but you could do it. In fact, I'd imagine you could write a filter to do it all for you, which would save you the trouble of sw...

I've heard of them, but the constant advertisements they spew just turned me off. I get that they've got sponsors, but usually it's the kind of thing you put in at the start/end of the show.
Re: RimWorld
I've been playing it myself, streaming the results ( highlights here ). So far, I've spent about 4 hours, and have had three colonies die to raiders (although I savescummed to continue on with the latest one). Pretty cool game. I've been playing on the "Cassandra Classic" setting, and it s...

Re: Resources needed for a noob to KSP
Action groups are pretty useful for more complex staging, as well. For example, the stock Aries 4A is just barely a single-stage-to-orbit craft, but you have to use action groups rather than staging to fly it; I don't remember the numbers, but it was explained that you run the jets for a while, then...

Scott Manley is usually the go-to recommendation, since his videos are pretty much the standard for KSP tutorials. I guess the real question is what exactly are you having trouble with?

Sarudak: to use RCS effectively, you want to make sure that your ports are equidistant from your center of mass. While I haven't played the modded tree myself, I was giving someone in the IRC a bit of help with rocket design. I found it's perfectly possible to build a craft capable of reaching high ...

Re: Kerbal Space Program 0.22 anticipation thread
On the subject of mods: Messing with the tech tree is as easy as modifying a .cfg file? So if I add a mod with parts like, say, Remotetech, it would be pretty easy for me to insert those parts into appropriate parts of the tech tree myself, right? For now, without TreeLoader/TreeEdit, you can only ...

Hm. The custom tree plugin looks good, but it's a shame that he's not confident enough in the editor to release it to the public. I suppose it's possible to reverse-engineer the format by looking at the source for the loader, though.

No Dorugami. That's an artificial limitation that Mojang put in; FC reverted it in 4.65 so that they will move as long as they are loaded.

Re: Kerbal Space Program 0.22 anticipation thread
If they made the game into an aerospace program where you had to work with aircraft before you could progress to spacecraft, they could "introduce players to Jeb quickly" - Of course, then they'd need to have something to keep players from just sending a Kerbal into space before they have ...

Re: Kerbal Space Program 0.22 anticipation thread
To me, it seems like you would start with manned aircraft, move to unmanned aircraft once you collect data on the effects of higher altitudes on your kerbals, then move to probes etc. I am, of course, basing this on a Mission Controller package used in a Youtube series; there's probably better ways ...
