Re: A minecraft quine?

Also, just a point of clarification, a quine can be destroyed in the process of making a copy, so one that made a copy of itself 5 blocks east while destroying istelf would be a quine, and would also appear to be moving (albeit probably very slowly) If one could make one that could also mine its own...

A minecraft quine?

With the auto recipe creator and auto builders and block dispensers in BTB, is it possible to construct a mechanism in minecraft that can copy itself, given the necessary resources?

If not, why not?

You could also change the platform texture to be more gate-like, yeah? Have any of the texture packs done this?

Re: Portal 2

The difficulty of the puzzles aside (I thought single-player was too easy, and co-op was just about perfect), Portal 2 is pretty much a master-class in videogame narrative. The acting, writing, set-design and flow were pretty much flawless, and one of the few game stories that has genuine ambition -...

Re: SummerFields BTW (32x32) Preview Release v0.1

Is there a way to install this after I've installed BTB? MCPatcher won't run for me.

Re: Redstone in real life?

Yes, I am aware that a computer is made out of electronic circuits.

I'm thinking about an educational toy to show students and nerdy kids how logic gates work in a hands-on way.

Redstone in real life?

Would it be possible to make a toy kit that has components that work something like redstone? Obviously it wouldn't be exactly the same, but some way you could link together components that acted as logic gates in the same way or similar way that redstone works? Is there already a toy or a kit avail...

Re: American Horror Story

I hated the first episode, watched the second episode because my friends insisted it got better, also hated the second episode. Not scary, not even unnerving. Just silly, camp and annoying.

Minecraft 2: How would you do it?

If you were going to build a Minecraft sequel from scratch, what would you keep? What would you change?

Re: Better Than Release?

Mob traps aren't really a problem, I think. I think mob generators (ie, big huge open dark buildings that just generate mobs) feel exploit-y to me though. I don't have a problem with something that draws 'naturally' spawning monsters toward a trap. I wouldn't really have a problem with some kind of ...

Re: Better Than Release?

Re: the end: I think that minecraft is about building. The end should be about building. I think probably the dragon should be essentially unkillable until you build something that saps it's strength somehow, while dealing with endermen and dragon attacks. I'm not sure what form that would take, tho...

Re: Better Than Release?

How about if only steel weapons can be enchanted, and that soul urns need to be charged first by killing at least one creature with the weapon or item to be enchanted before they can be enchanted (with ghasts at the top and baby chickens at the bottom). Maybe each soul urn can be charged up to 3 tim...

Re: Thoughts on multiplayer BTW, economics, protecting terri

It could be that a shrine could have multiple levels, each of which expands the size of the protected area, but also each 'level' increases the difficulty of mobs in the surrounding areas -- and maybe protection expands and contracts on a cycle with moon phases--- say it's a 128 block radius on a fu...

Re: Thoughts on multiplayer BTW, economics, protecting terri

I hadn't thought of that. The vending machine block could very well be used as a lock and key mechanism in adventure maps. If it worked similarly to a hopper (where it grabs items on top of it), you could even use it in factory set ups to trigger state changes. (ie, if an item of a certain type flow...

Re: Thoughts on multiplayer BTW, economics, protecting terri

At this point I think I stand by my point: protection is not something that should come out of a block. Well if you think about it somewhat, you can make it so something like a 'church' or 'temple' structure is needed. And perhaps it needs to be constantly be kept charged with XP orbs or animal sac...

Re: Thoughts on multiplayer BTW, economics, protecting terri

To be honest, I'm very curious and somewhat excited to see the kind of stuff FC will think up if he's the type of person that prefers no-holds-barred anarchy SMP. Hehe...thanks. Yeah, I think it will wind up giving BTW a rather unique feel in multiplayer. I find most mod-creators seem to focus on w...

Re: Thoughts on multiplayer BTW, economics, protecting terri

I think it would fit better if the vending block were a multi-block system Well, I wanted to create the minimum possible blocks to enable transactions, which is why I didn't propose a machine that trades gold for items or anything. I think as long as people can't just drop levers and redstone torch...

Re: Thoughts on multiplayer BTW, economics, protecting terri

I like these ideas and I have a document written down for a mod I might do that does similar things (banking mod). Here's a few devil's advocate arguments: - FC is a known anarchy player, meaning it's doubtful he's ever going to add a block that protects material I think, ideally, that you can crea...

Thoughts on multiplayer BTW, economics, protecting territory

One of the best things that BTW does is provide a mechanism for improving land -- creating elevators, bridges, farms, bakeries, smiths, kilns etc. All of these things cry out for specialization, but also there will be problems with vandalism. It's one thing when you have to rebuild a wall, it's anot...
