Re: Prison Architect 1.0

They added mod support a while back. The scripting is done in Lua, and off the top of my head I know they have the ability to add needs, programs, objects, and materials, as well as modify the textures from the base game.

Re: Kerbal Space Program 1.0

My best guess about the "release" label is that there was pressure from elsewhere to have a "finished" version - maybe from their parent company, maybe from the studio that's porting it to console. It seems like it's a PR nightmare - releasing a "1.0", then having to ma...

It also lets them further development of the Windows version while leaving the Linux and Mac ones behind, essentially saying "if you want the complete package, you HAVE to be on Windows".

Re: Hololens and its applications.... discuss

IMO, VR and AR are similar, but one isn't a subset of another. Just like you could theoretically block out your vision and use an AR device for VR, you could mount cameras to the front of a VR device and layer things over what they show for AR. In fact, that's essentially what Microsoft does for the...

Re: Hololens and its applications.... discuss

I start with making some predictions for the gaming sector. It is likely we will see a lot of games that go into the direction of what right now is tabletop. WH40K for example could be ported into an AR environment. Just like tabletop RPGs had its mechanics simulated by early PCs I assume there wil...

It is. Haven't played it myself, but it looked like a very solid platformer.

Re: Lego...minecraft?

I'll be honest, from what I've seen of it (NerdCubed's video and the trailer), it didn't impress me. That's not to say that I don't think it'll succeed (there's too much interest in an officially licensed game like this), but I'm fairly burnt out on the whole concept of a voxel-based world (even whe...

I've been watching EJ_SA play on Twitch (adding up the VOD times, it's showing about 15.25 hours, and I watched the bulk of that, as well as someone else when his internet died). It looks good, but has a pretty serious problem with traffic patterns - on multilane roads, cars will stay in the lane th...

Re: Surgeon General's Warning: Early Access May be a Scam

I think you just essentially said that making your game run on other platforms allows people to play it on other platforms, which isn't really much of a statement at all :) It was more that cross-platform support expands your potential audience to users who don't have a Windows system. Not as impor...

One of them was supporting Mac and Linux. fully 3D worlds is still haunting them. Trying to pioneer something is fine, but they tried to pioneer a few too many things I'm not so sure that supporting Mac and Linux was such a terrible thing. There's plenty of indie games that didn't use pre-existing ...

Re: Is DirectX 12 really that big of a deal?

For most headlines that are posed as a question, you can safely answer "no". I'll believe it when there's games that are written with it in mind and have a noticeable performance increase. As far as adopting win10: I picked up a couple spare keys for Windows 7 and 8 to be on the safe side,...

catch up to today and imagine where 3d printing is headed. Print your own 3D weapons? There's a group that's released plans for a 3D-printed single-shot pistol and have also printed receivers for AR-15s and magazines for AR-15s and AK-47s. Granted, they took the files down after a request by the US...

I could see it being useful in designing something that's going to be 3D printed. Model it in your preferred software, and then see it in actual scale before you actually use materials on something that's done incorrectly. I wonder how they'll handle things blocking the view of AR objects - the comp...

I have to agree about parole. Maybe for my minsec guys, who aren't going to be in there long anyway, and my supermax guys, who drive me nuts; but for my normal- and maximum-security prisoners, I want them to stay because they've been the ones that are doing the bulk of the work in the prison. If the...

Just a heads up though: there was some mess between the dev and the publisher, so the future of the game is a bit uncertain. It's fairly solid as it is, but there definitely is room for improvement that we may or may not see happen.

Regardless of the quality of the game, keep in mind that you're paying $20 for early access to a game that will be free to play. Given that, I would recommend holding off until it's free, so that the only thing you'll lose if it turns out to be bad is time and bandwidth.

Man, when I see statements like the above I seriously despair that people may have learned nothing from BTW or my other mods :) Well, your mods are also another part of my thought process; a lot of these games end up being either laughably easy or grindier than a Korean MMO. I've already seen the d...

I've intentionally been referring to it as 0.9 on the KSP forums just because I know it gets under their skin...ove...

Re: Factorio: A game all about automation

Makes sense to me. Factorio's strengths lie in the player's ability to build stuff rather than the combat system. It's kind of like how in BTW killing the enderdragon isn't the last thing to do, but rather just something you need to do so you can get access to materials needed to build the most powe...
