Re: Problem with fully automatic dung farm
I dispense food directly onto a pressure plate that refills food when nothing is on it. That way there is always food available I also do this, and set it up so there are as many dogs close enough to the pressure plate as I can fit. I believe the max is 8, though I usually go with just four because...

Re: Tripwires sometimes being activated by items?
To elaborate, since I thought this was common knowledge here: As was stated, tripwires are no longer supposed to detect items, and as far as I'm aware all other forms of dropping items on the wires will cause them to not activate. For some reason, it is only items that are dropped by dead mobs that ...

Tripwires sometimes being activated by items?
So, I've been working on mob grinders on a server for quite awhile, and I've run into an issue with my design, which I believe is caused by a bug. My design is a large array of one-block-wide spawning platforms with tripwires running across them, and sticky pistons pushing a block which pushes the m...

Re: Nether mob farm help
My experience with the nether fort spawning bounding box has been that it extends to the entire chunk that the forts spawn within, even if it's only a few blocks that spawn within it, and apparently also have a y extent as well, though I know less exactly how the y extent is determined. I would assu...

Re: The Constructal Law
Yes, entropy is a part of and affects the Constructal Law, but is not the law itself. Rather, the law states that, basically, a system through which there is a flow (regardless of what it is that is flowing) will inevitably, given enough time, evolve into a state that more efficiently allows this fl...

Re: Nether mob farm help
I think the "volume" I was referring to includes the entire Y axis (up and down). I don't think there's a vertical limit on it. If I'm not remembering that right, someone please correct me, but I never remember taking into account the vertical limits when building a nether trap, which I d...

Re: Nether mob farm help
Yes, I can also confirm that pigmen do indeed spawn in nether fortresses. Also, as an aside, concrete is great for making nether fortresses safe, assuming you haven't already made it so. Bloodwood might also be worth looking into for lessening the annoyance of ghasts, if you happen to have a few pa...

The Constructal Law
So, I started reading a book recently, which proposes a law (The Constructal Law) that applies to all things which have any form of movement. This law states that all things which have movement (which I will henceforth call 'flow systems', as you can consider movement to be the flow of energy/mass t...

Re: Quackers Friendly Coop Server [Whitelisted]
Well, for the first option, if there's a lot of people going to the same place then they can all go together. The issues come up only when there are people who want to go to different places at the same time. The hybrid option is to just implement both systems on the same rail line, sorry if that wa...

Re: Quackers Friendly Coop Server [Whitelisted]
So, once I finish my iron grinder, I was thinking of upgrading the nether rail line to a more convenient, automated or semi-automated system. Since this will be a public project, I figured I'd ask for everyone's opinion on various aspects of its implementation that I'm debating on. The biggest thing...

Re: Strategies for finding villages and trading with village
Just want to add a good suggestion I got from Abculatter_2 on IRC: To use maps to explore with when trying to locate villages. As an addendum to this, I also recommend starting your explorations by putting down nether portals in the nether that are approximately 256 blocks apart. This makes them ju...

Re: [OUTDATED] MultiMC 5 + MCPatcher 3 + BTW (Windows/Linux)
Lots of work to get it to function properly. If I ever find the time, I'll write the code to fix this, but really, it's a mess. I have to tweak MCPatcher code, submit a patch and ask the author to put it in the release. If I do, the MultiMC guys promised me they would create a new function in MMC t...

Also, don't forget that you'll need wolf booties and the closest player must be wearing a Gimp suit.

Re: cool design for a vMC mobfarm
If you made the spawn pads much closer, you could use an iron golem instead. It wouldn't be very efficient, and it would almost undoubtably be much cheaper to just use pistons + tripwire/lenses, but it would be quite funny to watch.

Re: Show us your builds!
Finally reached a point with my base on the server I've been playing on for the past so many months that I feel like sharing it. I still have a lot of aesthetic work to do (including essentially everything that isn't pictured here) but I think I've decided on an aesthetic I like. Link to the album: ...

Re: Gravity Waves Detected
I should really do my own research on this, but since you seem knowledgeable and want to talk about this, what impact does this have on general relativity? At first glance I'm not sure it would jive with the concept of 4D space time. Or is it that these "gravity waves" don't represent gra...

Re: Looking for building/project suggestions
The clock tower idea is really interested abculatter. I'm curious how it would work out if you start spreading out your buildings around spawn and need to run mechanical power out a ways. Do you have any prototypes or attempts at building something like it on your youtube channel? I'll check it out...

Re: Looking for building/project suggestions
One of my personal long-term goals for whenever I eventually start on a new singleplayer BTW world is to build a working clock tower in the spawn chunks, so that it's always running while I'm playing and therefore will (hopefully) maintain the in-game time accurately forever, and then use the timing...

Re: Gravel and soul sand
Gil, they're not saying that the slab breaking into items is the problem, they're saying the problem is that the falling detection for slabs is different enough from vanilla sand and gravel fall detection that soulsand is considered an invalid block for slabs, but a valid block for sand/gravel.

The two topics below this one (The ones for Amalga and Quackers servers) are the primary active servers at the moment. You could also try the Diamond Hills Resort, but it looks like it's not active anymore.

Found this in the comments: http://imgur.com/u3Sg1fh JEBUS $2000 for a fucking minecraft map!? People pay for art, I guess. I'd seriously question forking out that much, but some people have more money than good sense. If they're happy, I don't see why he should stop. Well, I mean, I was kinda hars...
