Re: Yogventures blows a cool half mil
Wait, you get refunds from failed Kickstarters? When did this start happening? Legally speaking I thought Kickstarter was donations with no promise of performance nor return... and thus why I've never kickstarted anything nor ever will. I don't like gambling. I'm surprised how long it took for this ...

Re: [WIP][24x] Sockthing's Aurora Texture Pack
This is bloody gorgeous so far. I love the style you've kept across everything you've shown.
Question, is there any particular reason you're working in 24x or was it just a "let's try something different" decision?

Hey Ion, thanks for this! I personally took a 9 month hiatus from Minecraft (damn you Hearthstone) and have lately been getting back into BTW and missed Conquest.

Re: Download Youtube Videos
Jdownloader. Careful with the installer though. It tries to install some stupid crap. Also, JDownloader cannot be run at the same time as Photoshop. Causes Photoshop to crash on Cut/Drag operations. No idea why. It's my goto. Flashgot for Firefox also seems solid. It's certainly used by enough peopl...

I'm liking this so far quite a bit. However, the Iron Shovel looks like a spear. May I humbly suggest going for a square shovel head design?

@Flower Don't the Japanese already sell something like that?
@CreeperCannibal I've always thought of the Auto-kiln as Steve's home entertainment center. Now that you can bake with it, the entertainment is endless!

Best survival strategy I can think of "DON'T PLAY LIKE ICY!" Seriously, that dude does crazy crap that *should* get him killed constantly. It doesn't. But it should.

The chicken jokeys strike me as a quick little "feature" added in to placate everyone who doesn't care about Twitch.tv streaming integration (which is most people). Frankly the whole "baby zombie" design branch is just dumb, but it's there now.

The fruit is a lie!
I suggest the next life you only use your hovel to collect stacks of stone through the night and then move on to a new location (harvesting wood) during the day until you find more animals to slaughter ;)

Re: Surviving early game surrounded by jungle
I had a spawn like that in one of my worlds. What I found worked best was carving up the walls to create ledged walk ways all over the place. In addition I did a large number of dirt bridges. Ground level was suicide.

@TheAnarchitect That kind of behavior earned me either a flying shoe or a nearly full beer can. My old man did NOT appreciate tantrums. Not saying it's the right way, but it did teach me as a young kid that the world didn't give a shit what I thought nearly as much as I would have liked it too. It d...

Re: Mob Traps
For really low tech, I usually just build a 1 chunk tower to level 124 with 4 3x3x1 pads separated by 2 block wide drop channels on all sides (including outer). Using wood, you can keep building this bugger up over time. Sometimes I'll add a half-slab to the middle of each pad (columns aren't necess...

@Panda It's not a cultural thing. It made no sense to me and I'm American. Didn't really even find it funny.

Bit of an echo I suppose, but like so many before have said, school was stupidly simple for me (160 IQ for what that's worth). One thing that helped, but didn't prevent a similar path as seems to be the consensus, was my old man's insistence that I work everyday after school in his machine shop. I h...

Back to the topic at the top of the page: DinnerBone, or anyone in a position to deal with stupidly large numbers of people, need to remember that no doesn't actually require one to vocally respond. An ignore is just as good as no, but with the added advantage that people can continue to think good ...

Re: Anyone here into Lua?
When I tried learning Lua (10 years ago?) It felt like the code had the same pitfalls as LISP: great for writing, but a NIGHTMARE when reading. A lot of programmers forget that you actually spend more time reading code then you do writing it. That being said, I've never shied away from easier to use...

Re: Unusual but Fun way to farm Gold
Love the hunt! Battle Axe + looting baby! I haven't reached the nether in my latest world, but in my previous world I created a spawn platform over a lava lake and would roam that with a looting battle axe for my gold needs. Was amazingly effective. Place a wart farm and blood wood farm (for the sap...

Nothing better then spending your nights cuddling your cows while you huddle together in that newly minted dirt hovel waiting for mo...
