Not to plug my addon (that's a lie) but Astrolabe can be used for that, it doesn't require coordinates. Although to be fair I haven't tested it after all the new releases, but I assume it still works since I heard no complaints.

Dirt doesn't fall all the way to the top like sand does. Only two or three blocks above will fall. Dawnraider, I figured out what the issue with CraftGuide is. It's not a bug in Craftguide, actually, but a method you need to add to your blocks when they have a kiln recipe.
