Re: Steam Sales

Company of Heroes 2 is heavily invested in the ala carte model. The base game is basically multiplayer only with just a couple factions.

But yes, free.

Re: Space Engineers revisited

I've seen a couple videos recently and they seem to have the multiplayer down pretty well for groups up to 12. Seems like with the right mods it would be worth playing. But in the meantime the niche has filled with things more like games without all the effort, like Interstellar Rift or Pulsar: Lost...

Creepers are the best way to terraform, honestly. They can even be used to tunnel through lower strata of rock before you have a proper tool

Re: Better than Wolves and Rails?

I can't say I've ever had to transfer items between platforms given that they reach all 256 blocks vertically, but that does seem pretty badass. Mostly it was easier in my head to transfer to a new platform to get up to a new, higher level than to rebuild that dropoff point higher. It also allowed ...

Re: Better than Wolves and Rails?

Platforms are an entirely viable vertical transport system. If you set it up right you can even manage a couple hundred feet using one set of platforms as sluice gates to transfer from one platform to another at the bottom of its own rope, which is one of the coolest things I ever made

Re: Form vs function in early-mid-late game

Form follows function for me even into the endgame. Even my infernal library being a dark, flooded tower filled with rotting books and a single lens spotlighting the enchanter was a concession to spawning mechanics since I didn't want to risk blocking any magic by filling the room with torches

It's more pure management juggler than sim title. Having to manage tasks with dwindling crew numbers due to injury can get frenetic but it's nothing like a simulation

If you liked Lexicon (aside from reading Max Barry's other excellent books) you may love Neal Stephenson. REAMDE reads like a grown up Ready Player One in a more realistic setting and Snow Crash is almost a definitive work of Cyberpunk speculation along with it's sort of sequel The Diamond Age. I al...

Subnautica - Feature complete release

Stable ship date is August 10. Price will be increasing one month prior to the October 31st PC launch date so this seems like the best time to pull the trigger if you have been waiting.

Re: The controller thread (HOTAS, Steam Controller, etc)

I only use my other peripherals when the M&KB controls are bad, usually a case of a bad console port - for example the driving and flying controls in GTA5 are awful, so I switched to the 360 pad when I had to use a car/plane/helicopter/etc and switch back to my M&KB for on-foot. Since I use...

If they can track the positions of controllers, they can sell a sensor you can put on your throttle and joystick which will tell the software where to render a model of your controls. Assuming Logitech or Thrustmaster don't just cut out the middleman and sell a line of Vive/Oculus compatible setups ...

Re: I tested out an Occulus Rift

I've been using a $20 headset that holds my phone in a cartridge and straps it to my face for basic VR applications and movie viewing. Based on that experience I am very much looking forward to using VR for HOTAS games. Star Citizen and Elite in particular. The tech seems custom made for vehicle bas...
