A beacon that increases overworld mob spawn rates. On SMP spawn rates are quite variable, which makes gathering iron in the late game difficult.

If you still hate hardcore spawn after doing all that, you can join a server instead. Servers have lots of roads and landmarks, and access to nether networks, so it's much easier to get back to your base.

The portion of drops it burns isn't a whole lot. One of my old worlds still uses a trap with a lava blade, and it burns maybe 1 in 10 if that, which is more than made up by the high output of the trap itself. If you have that nice resource right there, I don't see any reason not to use it.

Try advertising on the minecraftforum. This one just doesn't get enough traffic unfortunately. Granted advertising there will get you noobs, but any players are better than none right?
