Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled

I could be wrong, but I think they shrunk the inventory down, which may have something to do with it. Because yeah, I agree, inventory management is more of a concern now than it used to be, but when I noticed my hotkeys only went up to 8 instead of the standard 9, I assumed that was the reason why...

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled

My post was witten at about day 12 or day 14, something like that. I stopped playing my game a few days ago, for the same reason you did, funnily enough at day 42 as well. My position changed a bit on some issues. ...Makes base building and defense a higher priority, but that's unfortunately still u...

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled

I understand the concern, in fact, I was in the same boat when that update dropped, but after playing around with it, I see what they are trying to do, and I even think they made the right choice here. They removed the difficulty of understanding how the game works for the hypothetical person who ne...

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled

I suspect the NPCs may wind up having a lot of parallels to MC wolves. They are planning tameable wolves, I shit you not :D But yeah, the AI thing is what I think will break it, too. The good thing is, they have opened up much more systems and subsystems to modding, so removing NPC bandits will be ...

Alpha 15 dropped a few days ago, so I'll rez this thread Anybody still playing 7DTD? For me, even thou it's still far from perfect, and may very well never be, it's one of the few games that sucks me in every couple of months and I no-life it for a week before moving on with my life. Re: Reactor Idle and Factory Idle - assembly incremental gam

I'm a sucker for these kinds of games, and given that I spend weeks of my life in factorio, I gravitated torwards factory idle. Anybody wanna share layouts? I like having nice and tidy, modular designs without much spaghetti, even if it means I can't use every room to the fullest. With the right res...

Re: Noah Caldwell-Gervais: In-Depth Game Analysis on YouTube

It just seems absurd to me for someone to criticize a game on the grounds that "trying for 100% completion isn't fun" when the game designer has already told them that they've beaten the game long before then. Does he really, thou? He repeatedly praises the game for being fun and engaging...

Re: Noah Caldwell-Gervais: In-Depth Game Analysis on YouTube

Serious question: What makes it "better"? While arguing about what critique about a work of art is better or more accurate is pointless in itself, since one cannot really argue about a subjective understanding of said work, I still have to disagree. Yes it is shorter, but it also covers a ...

In the spirit of this thread, where I wanted to shine a light on a small, not well known, but in my opinion really good youtube channel, I want to present another such channel, to which I'm sub'd to for about 4 months now, simply called Joseph Anderson with 6.5k subs at the time of writing. Re: Game Design - Incremental Games

If you haven't played Clicker Heroes enough to get to zone 1000, you really can't judge the design. That is propably true. I wasn't talking about Clicker Heroes, more about incremental games in general. It may very well be that I only played the bottom of the barrel stuff, or that the genre moved o...

Re: Game Design - Incremental Games

I'm not saying a reset mechanic makes a game worse, I'm saying that it doesn't make it better, while making it seem that it does. It gives a semblance of meta progression in a game purely about progression. When your progression slows down and your internal achievement sensors stop getting stimulate...

Re: Game Design - Incremental Games

I agree that AdVenture Capitalist is propably an example of the bad ones, but it still follows genre conventions right down to a t. What I liked about AdCap was that, the further you are along, the less often you have to check on it since it idles even when the game is not running. As soon as I real...

Re: Game Design - Incremental Games

I fell victim to clicker/idle games in the past. my personal poison was "AdVenture Capitalist", which isn't even that good, even as far as idle games are. I avoid this genre like the plague now, since they always leave an empty feeling and a bad "what the hell am I doing with my life&...

I knew about soylent, but because they don't deliver to europe, I never tried it. Throu this thread I learned about joylent, and have ordered every flavor just to test it out last week. 'Tis a strange one for me... I played about 10 hrs (one playthrou) a few weeks back, and even thou I enjoyed it, if I reflect on my time with it I can't explain what it was that was fun to me. I'd like to present a fun little logic game to this forum, where I don't think it was mentioned before, because I think many people here are the right audience for this somewhat niche game. 428R_oEjGGI The game, on first sight, appears to be about programming, but on closer look, it's more about sol...

Re: 7 Days to Die - and How I'm now Spoiled

I finally got to play the update, or to be exact hotfix 6, over the holiday weekend, and I've enjoyed my time with it immensely. Here are some thoughts after 13 in game days (25% loot, no loot respawn, 1h days, 200% zombies), in no particular order: There are some pretty big problems right now, in o...

Re: StarWars 1-3 fan theory about Jar Jar Binks

It may not be common knowledge or anything, but the original star wars was made on a nearly non-existent budget. There was also pretty much no hope it would attract an audience, the executives didn't understand it Very true. GL even waived (some of?) his salary in exchange for the rights to merchan...

Re: StarWars 1-3 fan theory about Jar Jar Binks

I've seen the fan theory before and i don't really mind the idea, but i think it might be a bit too out-there. Most of the stuff in this theory can indeed be explained away by saying "plothole", or "it was done for the effect alone", but what it find pretty hard to explain away ...
