Re: Opus Magnum
This just updated with an extra chapter at the end of the main campaign, made up of a bunch of space-limited puzzles. Now I just wished they'd designed the puzzles like that from the get go. It's much more interesting with the extra constraints. Was about to come here and mention that. They're sign...

Re: Steam Sales
Sanctum 2 is free for 48 hours from Humble Bundle. Really cool hybrid FPS/Tower Defence game. Have been looking at getting it for a while so I'm pretty chuffed.

...and only now do I discover you can scroll the instruction bar left and right. It could have been so much easier :/ Oh wow, yeah, that'd make it substantially harder. Damn man, that's crazy. Yeah I didn't work that one out for a while. Another one I only found out the other day was that you can r...
Re: The Room
I just finished the first game. I wasn't blown away by it, but it's a nice little puzzle game that's lovingly crafted. I didn't get to a point in it like I did with the Witness where I was like 'oh fucking come on, who's gonna work that out?' I'd suggest disabling the hints as they probably give a b...

Re: Your favorite games of all time list
Oooh, I love that this thread got some traction. I love "top 10" list style things and this thread is very fun to go through. Pokemon: I really like Pokemon first generation. It's extremely well-designed and I love the scope. Some of the other games have a little too much going on for me ...

Re: Your favorite games of all time list
I could make a massive list, but I'll just pick a game from each platform that I've put the most hours into: Sega Master System: Sonic 1 Genesis: Streets of Rage Sega CD: Sonic CD Saturn: Daytona USA Dreamcast: Crazy Taxi Nintendo NES: Kirby's Dream Land SNES: Street Fighter 2 Turbo N64: Super Mario...

Re: Opus Magnum
Also this is probably the hardest Zachtronics game to get high efficiency in each category. Unlike the other games where building the most efficient machine will get good results in all categories, you have to engineer a design tailored to each one to be efficient. I.e. You can build a cheap design ...

Re: Opus Magnum
I stayed up late to wait for the launch because I'm a nerd and yeah, it's awesome. It's $18US which I initially felt was a little steep (more than Shenzhen) but after playing it a bit I think it's a fair price. There are sooooooo many ways to solve puzzles in this game. You are literally given a bla...

Opus Magnum
Looks like there's a new Zachtronics game on the radar: http://store.steampowered.com/app/558990/Opus_Magnum/ Appears to have an alchemy focus with mechanics similar to SpaceChem. Every Zachtronics game has blown me away so far and I doubt this will be any exception. Releases in about three days. Ca...

One of the best bundles I've ever seen on Bundlestars atm:
https://www.bundlestars.com/en/bundle/i ... s-6-bundle
Wish I didn't already own a few of them, the price makes it pretty much worth it just for any of those single games alone.

Book Recommendations?
Hey guys, started doing longish train journeys again and would like to know the sorts of things you guys have been reading and what recommendations you might have. Some things I've read recently are: Jack Reacher Series: Have read about 10 of the series and while I did enjoy them, they did tend to g...

Re: The controller thread (HOTAS, Steam Controller, etc)
Wired vs Wireless: I heavily dislike wireless devices. I don't have the room to make wireless worthwhile (I barely have enough space between my desk and bed for a chair), so I would just be left with the drawback of having to charge/replace the batteries in them. I can't stand them either. I usuall...

Re: The controller thread (HOTAS, Steam Controller, etc)
Monitor: I recently picked up an Acer XB280HK. 4K@60Hz. Really nice monitor. I can't go back to anything under 4K now. It comes with GSync which pushed the price up a little. I honestly haven't noticed a difference with it and what's more odd is that I get screen tearing if I don't enable V-sync in ...

Re: I tested out an Occulus Rift
I think Dave is right in that this technology has always been geared perfectly towards vehicle sims rather than the more full-body experiences that seem to be the fad right now. IMO, piloting a plane or driving a car would be a much more immersive experience, as you can actually build up a full bod...

Re: I tested out an Occulus Rift
I've had an HTC Vive for nearly a year now, and while I've really enjoyed it, I'm on the fence as to whether I've gotten my money's worth. I have a fairly substantial VR library now and I can't really say there's a game that keeps me coming back. I've certainly had some fantastic experiences such as...
