Re: Hardcore Spawn does not follow spawn point

-cut- First of all, I love the Let's Plays! Keep up the good work. It's funny, but I was actually wondering about how you managed to use the same world and start fresh in the videos while I was was watching them. Anyways, this isn't really a bug. FC never really intended the spawn point to be manip...

Mojang's Nerfing of Endermen: Thoughts

So I was just in the Development Diary thread and remembered one of the initial reasons that drove me to giving up on Vanilla. Obviously, Mojang has made a lot of mistakes over the vast expanses of time, but one of the last straws for me was their continued efforts to reduce the danger of Endermen. ...

FlowerChild wrote:I revamped Endermen pretty extensively in the past, but this has very little to do with 4.65 so I'd ask you to take such discussion elsewhere.
Okay, sorry. I think I actually will, as that was one of those things that drove me to using Better than Wolves in the first.

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week Of March 18th)

Since the only real utility this gives is dividing stacks in multiples of 3 I would have implemented a key to grab a third of the stacksyou were clicking, like right-clicking grabbing half of the stack. That ignores the edge cases of bulk crafting minecarts, chestplates, pants, or buckets. Those do...

Re: 4.65 Spoiler Discussion

In Simurgh's case, just avoid the blocks that Endermen can pick up. You can get a list of blocks they will pick up on The Minecraft Wiki Endermen pick up different blocks in BTW. I remember how angry I was when Mojang nerfed Endermen way back when by limiting them to only picking up dirt and flower...

Re: 4.65 Spoiler Discussion

Once you get a mob trap running your iron production will skyrocket though. Mining it yourself is very much the early game method. It balances out once you add in the recycling as diamond cannot be broken back down once it has been assembled into an item. Plus: Iron is available from surface mining...

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week Of March 18th)

Lovely. Click-drag in crafting slots tends to result in errors in crafting because the hit-zone is too wide on the individual slots when doing it. I've definitely noticed this -- I had a very hard time making anything with a diagonal distribution of blocks, like stairs or TNT. I really don't unders...

Re: 4.65 Spoiler Discussion

These numbers being reported varied so wildly from my experience that I had to run up a test world to check on them. Using the durability of a mattock as a gauge, exploiting exposed ores in caves any time the branch mine intersected and fully mining all ore veins resulted in the following when the ...

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week Of March 18th)

Lovely. Click-drag in crafting slots tends to result in errors in crafting because the hit-zone is too wide on the individual slots when doing it. Basically, if you're quickly clicking a bunch of single items in a bunch of slots, it tends to register a click-drag instead and plop down items in plac...

Re: Desert Temple Loot

I personally really like having to go to great lengths to even acquire domesticated crops other than pumpkins and hemp (well, even pumpkins are hard to find). I still rememeber hunting for melon seeds in my first minecraft world: it took me ages, but I eventually found them and had a lot of fun in t...

Re: Looking for a good C++ compiler

Thanks guys. I was already using CodeBlocks IDE, I just always screw up on the matter of compilers, but I will have a look at all the stuff you suggested. It definitely looks interesting. I probably should have mentioned in the OP that I run Windows.

Looking for a good C++ compiler

Much as Java is great, I like C++ much better as a programming language and have been writing some simple programs in it. However, I keep running into issues with compiling consistently. I have tried various compilers and have not really found one I like. Does anyone know of an easy-to-use, reliable...

Re: 4.65 Spoiler Discussion

Be sure to look up all the subtleties regarding diamond spawning. The poster above still seems convinced that staying above the lava layer is best for mining, which is not true. There's tons of videos out there that show empiric values for certain versions of Minecraft. Last I checked, just below l...

Re: Desert Temple Loot

desert temples are just too rare and too impractical to get at to have a significant impact on the game. True, but they are still something you are quite likely to find in your nomadic travels. And I understand that, but what I am saying is merely that, at that stage of the game, one diamond tool w...

I know I am running a pretty serious necro here, but this thread is stickied. It's been a long time since I've gotten as excited about a game as I am righ...

Re: 4.65 Spoiler Discussion

In my first 4.65 world, I did about 20 minutes of branch mining and came up with 36 diamonds. I find that really excessive man. Were you using a fortune enchant, or was that just a plain iron pick? Also, are you sure on that time value, or did it just feel like 20 minutes? Anyone else seeing number...

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week Of March 18th)

WOOT! After about a week of staring at the code totally in the dark as to whether what I was doing would actually work or not, I was just able to run BTW for the first time under 1.5!!!!! :) From a surface level inspection, everything appears to be working fine, except for the things I knew would b...

Re: Desert Temple Loot

I could rationalize this with some sort of complicated or semantic-based logic I think you can rationalize it with: 1) It can't be automated 2) It's still slower than mining Yeah... you're definitely right. I probably could have said my points more concisely. I think, in the end, desert temples are...

Re: Desert Temple Loot

I don't think desert temple loot is overpowered right now. I could rationalize this with some sort of complicated or semantic-based logic, but basically what it comes down to is that, in the early game, getting a few free diamonds is really not that much better than getting a few free iron or gold i...

Re: 4.65 Spoiler Discussion

The changes this update makes definitely make sense. I am really enjoying playing it, especially with the constant threat of starvation over my head. The only thing that seemed a little awkward was the rapidity with which one is able to move on from iron to diamonds in the quasi-early game (if you f...

Yeah, I am sorry to say that it looks like the way you're going to have to go. But just remember that professional data recovery can take weeks. In terms of cost, it can be priced anywhere from $700 to $2500.

Re: Anybody know anything about failed hard drives?

I too have dealt with a lot of hard drive failures. Your situation doesn't sound great. The fact that your computer is seeing no data on the disc is not good. When you run the hard drive does it make any odd noises or clicking? If not, it is probably a logical failure, in which case the data is reco...
