Re: Help and Pointers to Motivate
Personally I start with a "work" and "play" area. No mucking around when I've got my laptop on the desk, no internet open except for research tabs. Equally no work when I've got the laptop on the sofa. Then work is for a strict set time, be that an hour OR until I've gotten to do...

Re: Cheating - Discussion
Ok then...to push this to slightly out of BTW ranges... I used to play skyblock maps a fair bit before I got into BTW, just for the challenge. I would almost invariably get bored with the limited resources for building with and work out an "Exchange system" for non-renewable resources. For...

Re: Jungle spiders: BTW exclusive?
Jungle spiders are not vanilla. If you didn't get food poisoning, then it may be either 1 a cave spider, or 2 another mob added by a different mod.
EDIT: A quick google tells me that this mod - http://feed-the-beast.wikia.com/wiki/Biomes_O'_Plenty adds a Jungle spider

Re: Dungeon Master Help (Dungeons and Dragons v3.5)
If the party is too powerful, then try adjusting your attack strategies. -If they're good at taking on enemies solo, then pit them against the masses. -If they clear crowds well, then space things out. -Add ranged enemies to try and force them to plan around and work out which target to take out fir...

Re: Dungeon Master Help (Dungeons and Dragons v3.5)
Here's my two cents: -children's laughter and/or screams being heard -shadow puppet monsters/shadows being monsters -monsters from under the bed/in the closets -Walk in, see a kid under a sheet with eyeholes cut out. The sheet comes off. Nothing is there. Cue hoarde of skele-kids coming in from behi...

Re: Custom Map for BTW - Seeking Input
Unfortunately I won't have control over where Mineshafts generate without disabling stronghold and dungeon generation as well, and I don't want to bother with placing EVERYTHING manually. Wouldn't it be possible to do it customly from a superflat map as a starter? I know that there are various code...

Re: Building Mid Game
I'm curious whether you consider a redstone torch timer cheaty as well gil. I'm skipping all that gold requirement after all. Frankly I find all this talk about using in game techniques in a clever manner being "cheaty" to be a bit disturbing. There's more than one way to accomplish a goa...

Re: Building Mid Game
Depends on whether you view cheating as binary or as a sliding scale. Personally think comparing it to commands is a bit much, since unlike commands it requires at least some effort. However it IS still cheating, since the functionality already exists elsewhere in the game and in using the vanilla b...

Re: "Smart" building ideas
I think the main problem was the fact that my farm plots are just floating dirt in a lake too deep for me to adequately light or block off. For now I'm just avoiding the worst area over by the hemp until dawn. But I was kinda hoping that other people made other similar mistakes while thinking they w...

"Smart" building ideas
I thought I had a brilliant idea which would give me some more crop space, while minimizing the risk of hat attack. So a few hours of work later, I have this http://i.imgur.com/XmE4Z2L.png http://i.imgur.com/1TwTm1V.png Pretty sweet farm set up, or so I thought. Under the half-slabs are channels of ...

Re: Building Mid Game
There's also always vanilla BUDs if you don't find those too cheaty, which can be combined with lenses as a pre-end alternative to block/item detectors. This can be VERY useful for certain kinds of automation. Also, I highly reccomend an automated chicken farm for feathers. I can take screenshots o...

Re: Building Mid Game
You can automate animal feeding with regular dispensers on a timer of some sort. Eggs and poop at the very least can be easily automated.

Re: The beginning of iron tier
...yikes! I would definitely not recommend raw mushrooms as food. Stick every single last one you find under a wall in your base or some caves (with some distance between them of course, so they can spread), because you'll need all of the mushrooms you can get before Mushroom Omelettes really becom...

Re: The beginning of iron tier
Well this is starting to make me feel like an idiot. Am I the only one who's starting out with shears and a fishing rod? I did make a fishing rod early on one particularly bad hcs (between an ocean, desert and jungle...yuck) but mostly I don't have the patience for it. I'd rather spend the night cl...

Re: The beginning of iron tier
Thanks for the advice, everyone. For me, I feel like the game is just a race against starvation until I get a renewable food source, and it's a race that I want to win as fast as possible. I know the feeling, but a pick is honestly a lot better of a plan I've found. It means less time spent walking...

Re: Multiple End Dimensions Mod
Precisely why I suggest just "two" ends. People build in the end, so you can't just wipe the world. Another solution is to use only the original end dimension, but place another island several thousand chunks away. It's not likely to happen, but people might be able to connect them. Even ...

Re: Multiple End Dimensions Mod
Multiple end dimensions sounds like a disaster, the only reasonable appeasement that I can think of for your problem is to give each Player entity a value that determines if they have defeated the EnderDragon or not, if they haven't then a dragon will spawn when the player enters the end, only atta...

I just got to around the same stage, and the next thing I did was expand out my farming plots for a more intensive style...with the added benefit of reducing squid attacks :P My next plan is to make a small chicken battery farm for infinite eggs. Ideally I'd like to automate pig breeding too ( I hav...

So you shoot them again. And again...and then they fall down :PExpHP wrote: Odd, I was under the impression that they would simply heal themselves if I shot them.
Although I personally prefer luring them into a ditch and smacking their ankles until their warts fall off.

Re: I don't get it
1 iron nugget, two string and some sticks gets you a fishing rod. Fishing is a great way to spend to spend those early nights. Takes some patience though. A chicken plus a pumpkin farm form stage two of sustainable food. Sustainable eggs are great. A hoe should be one of the first iron tools you mak...

Re: Doctor Who 50th Trailer
Never watched this series. So I haven't seen the light of the religion known as Doctor Who. But from my understanding, becoming the doctor is a death sentence. Why does everyone wish that on their favorite character? I'm not sure you understand correctly. Characters don't "become" the Doc...

Cauldron based Alchemy and Food
It feels really weird to me that I can safely throw hellfire dust, glowstone etc into a cauldron where I'm already cooking my food and having no side effects. When I first got to the stage of making hibachi's and therefore needing hellfire ingots I took all the food I had in there out, having heard ...

Re: Cool Life on Mars video
There is absolutely no reason why this should be. There are mammals on earth with extremely large brains (18lbs). If you are just going by brain-to-body mass then again it's certainly not humans that lead this category either. But lets throw out the data and say you are right. There isn't any reaso...
