Re: WildStar

I played in the stress test and it seemed to go quite well, I quite like the paths to further distinguish your character, and alter your play style. Also, for those who have not yet ordered, Green Man Gaming is giving a 20-25% discount for the next few days. http://www.reddit.com/r/WildStar/comments...

Re: Long-distance Fire in Minecraft

The minecraft wiki confirms that it's only lava, and also that this won't work as it doesn't ignite blocks, only entities:
Arrows shot through lava, but not fire, will catch on fire and show an appropriate animation until they pass through water. They can set other entities they hit on fire.

Re: Anyone using tripwire hooks and what for?

I use them in my automated cow farms, but it's nothing that couldn't be done with pressure plates, they are just convenient to use if you have already looted a jungle temple. To be honest even this was forcing a use for them since I already had them, but it does make the redstone slightly shorter/si...

Re: Next generation consoles.

I have a PS3, but the only console type device I had before that was a commodore 64. I see the living room as a social area, so a console there should be for social gaming. At least that was the plan when I got the PS3, but the majority of games are single-player or on-line multiplayer, which don't ...

Running full tilt into walls now results in a concussion? Would certainly make trying to escape enemies more dangerous as mistimed jumps or dodges could end up fatal.

Re: Player help in debugging tree growth

That looks like a birch sapling. While these are great as they don't have any branches, birch and spruce saplings need 2 empty blocks surrounding them before they will grow . You have to use a sand pusher style tree harvester for these. Several designs have been posted on the forums, and they can be...

Re: Stonehearth - 3D Dwarf Fortress-esc game on Kickstarter

I think they are going for a voxelated anime style of graphics like 3D Dot Game Heroes. There is some questions in the FAQ about underground fortresses and similarities to Dwarf Fortress. In the video it shows a character building a house a block at a time, but I assume it is following a pre-generat...

Stonehearth - 3D Dwarf Fortress-esc game on Kickstarter

While much simpler than Dwarf Fortress at the moment, it looks like it takes a lot of inspiration from it. Plus Cthulhu boss mob! It is built with modding and scripting in mind for new mobs and player created quests in addition to the core survival/building gameplay. The downside is, it isn't due fo...

Re: Question about creating a game

While I haven't done any commercial games development, I have been making simple games since I started programming on my Commodore 64, so take anything I say with a bucket of salt. It does sound extremely ambitious, and without some planning and goal setting it might be a struggle to build something...

Re: Question about creating a mod.

I'd like to point about the walls limitation. You can hear mobs through walls, it's one of the easiest ways to locate caves you haven't stumbled onto yet, or find mob spawners (easy to detect through the large amount of noise from the same mob type). Since there is only stereo sound it only gives yo...

Re: Mojang April Fools Joke?

I only skim read the changes at first, and given Mojang's track record totally believed the lines I read (doesn't help that it is the 2nd of April in NZ by the time I get all the April Fools jokes). It was only once I noticed a lack of empty promises about modding support that I thought something wa...

Yay, finally got carrots, can get back on the progression path! :) I have gotten through a lot of LP videos getting to this point, redesigned my mob trap twice and gotten to almost 3 stacks of iron. I assume I need a jungle sapling before I can cross-breed vines, so my mob trap will have to remain f...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion

Except when it comes to trees, Mojang didn't increase the amount. They actually significantly reduced the amount. Previously using bonemeal on trees gave a random chance of success. Now its guaranteed growth every 2 bonemeal. Excuse me but since when has this happened? Back in my bonemeal using day...

It looks to me that Dinnerbone may have taken your advice and played through the mod, or at least gave the MCF topic a cursory read. Then came the Mojangifying of mod features that get added to vanilla. When pistons were added, everyone was upset that they would no longer throw entities like the ori...

I only know of the thaumcraft boots of the traveller which give this ability (plus jump height, walk speed and fall damage protection which may help as well).

The other thing you could do is set him up on a flatlands map, although they are a little more boring.

I'm having the same luck with you on carrots. heh.. But for animals. there are only two types that can be lured and there can be no other animal entity within 28 blocks +/- 5 of the spot. Ah, I was wondering if the animal I had was too close, and thought that animal cross-breeding would mean that I...

Ah, that explains why I was having trouble getting saplings, I had convinced myself that they must be bred from sugar cane and pumpkins for some reason. Unfortunately I gave up cross-breeding saplings at around the 20 hour mark and cheated one in. Now I just have to figure out how to get carrots or ...

Looks like PC version could be coming but not for a while yet: Will you be doing a PC version? We are currently focusing on the Xbox experience and multiplayer...

Re: Tekkit v. BTW

From watching some let's plays, it seems that the Feed the Beast mod pack as well as being more official (as long as they never include BWF) actually tries to tie the mods together unlike Tekkit/Technic. For example the IC2 mining drill requires Railcraft steel, so you can't just build it as soon as...
