Re: (Potential Spoilers?) - Opinions On First Iron Tool

So how do you get those diamonds without an iron pick? Someone in the Mining Efficiency thread pointed out that you can Chisel diamonds, redstone, emerald, and lapis with no loss. You can also chisel gold, but you get dust. So the only reasons to get an iron pick at all are to mine gold earlier, or...

Re: Early-game mushroom farming?

but you will need a reliable source of brown mushrooms for trading. Good to know. Before I posted this, I dug a 7*7*2 darkroom that can be lit from outside by breaking a particular block in the floor (without spilling mobs). I'll probably switch to slabs, because with this design I still have to fi...

Early-game mushroom farming?

I started playing BTW again a few weeks ago after a long absence, and just found my first village (wheat and potatoes!) Before the village, I found 2 brown mushrooms. (They were together on a small ledge and might not have been able to spread any further.) I didn't really try to farm them, because i...

Re: Which is better Large Biomes or Regular Biomes?

I used to like large biomes better. I think Flowerchild has said* that he doesn't like large biomes because: 1) Minecraft's worldgen is one of its greatest strengths. Spreading the variety over a larger area is more "realistic", but it also makes the world boring. 2) Large biomes used to m...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion

I am not too familiar with how variable signal strength works in stock given I never embraced analog redstone, but can't you get the same effect by using a comparator to measure signal strength, *then* invert the signal? Yes: if you set a comparator to subtraction mode, feed the daylight sensor int...

Re: Negating HC Spawn

Build time I would estimate at 3 hours already having the blocks from mining ect. I thought about doing this once, but assumed it would be way too big a project. HCS radius = 2 km, so one side of the box should be 4 km. The enter perimeter should be 16km, so you need 16,000 blocks to make a 1-wide ...

Re: Portal Problem (Spoilers)

It was my understanding that it can spread whenever a creature reaches a certain point in their infection, not just when they die. Like when wolves spin their heads, when chickens explode or I guess when sheep float and that enables the infection to multiply. I could be wrong though Wolves are the ...

The Minecraft login servers were temporarily down yesterday due to the Heartbleed OpenSSL exploit. As a result, they're dropping support for the old launcher (which I still use for BTW...) Aren't we getting carried away? They're adding a new stone block. It's not "ripped off" from TFC. It's not a big deal. Granite is one of the most well-known rock types out there. The "smooth granite" texture with beveled edges from the second image made me suspect borrowing - it...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion

For someone who switches between BTW and Vanilla to play with Anti-BTW noobs who refuse to convert, the launcher can be quite handy. (I have never tried Multi-MC or anything like that, so I am not sure if there was always a better alternative to switching .jars manually) This might be too technical...

Re: Just died

Do I need a diamond pickaxe to access the layer that redstone is in? Because I cannot get down past the second layer of stone (the first hard layer). And how would I get the diamonds if they are in the layer I cannot get down to? Serious answer: you can mine ore if you have the appropriate level of...
