Re: BTW Livestreamers

Streaming in 20 minutes at http://twitch.tv/escondida. I'm going to be jabbering at the channel for a little bit before then just to see whether yesterday's audio mishaps recur. Hopefully not.

Re: BTW Livestreamers

Hey, all. Next Mon and Tues (the 7th & 8th), from 6-8 p.m. US CST, I'm going to be streaming BTW at http://twitch.tv/escondida . Anybody who feels like watching me muddle through the early stages of a new world should feel free to drop in. (Why set a time ahead of time? Because that's how I roll...

That truly is a beautiful monstrosity you've built. I actually laughed out loud at the reveal that the whole thing was the most complex wool farm ever devised.

Re: What infrastructure do you focus on?

I definitely spend a lot of time on roads, with little wayposts here and there so I don't get stuck running for my life too often in the likely event I get overenthusiastic in my construction. It's a great feeling to slowly expand your base of operations outwards that way, and an even greater feelin...

Re: New Release! (BTW V4.99999A0D Marsupial??!!)

Recently got back into BTW, and this new release seems generally awesome. I already have a bunch of paths in my world that I know I'm going to be replacing wood and packed dirt slabs with gravel slabs to go with the gravel that they're mainly made of. That change to jungle initial spawns will be a r...

Re: One more not

IIRC, HC spawn will not deign to spawn you at a level "too low" - basically, you won't end up at the bottom of a ravine, underground, or in a cave somewhere...nor the bottom of an ocean. If the game picks a spawn point that is too low, it'll re-roll. If it, for some reason, picks enough b...

Re: Just read "The End" text for the first time

Even reading it online, without the excruciatingly slow text crawl, you have my sympathies. To quote Rosencrantz or Guildenstern (dead, either way), "Half the things he said meant something else, and the other half didn't mean anything at all!"

Re: Dinnerbone in BTW MCF thread

Hehe...the quest markers in Skyrim drove me frigging nuts. Huge beautiful open world to explore, yet I have magical radar telling me where everything interesting is, so I spent more time looking at it, than at my actual surroundings. <face palm> +1, for real. I tried playing the game unmodded for a...

testificate villages have churches and priests. Who are they praying to? The Ender Dragon; that's why their souls are particularly valuable in the war against it. Spot on, thank you! Glad to oblige, and thanks! Wordpad will work too, and I think that ships with Windows these days. Oh, cool. I'd assumed the same bug applied to most of their tools, but I'm glad to hear that's not the case. (I'm making a mental note for future reference, for when my typical adv...

Re: Better With Renewables v0.21 for BTW 4.35 SMP

That's also pretty standard practice; UNIX-based operating systems (such as Linux or even Mac OS X) generally use "magic numbers" at the beginnings of files to determine the file type, rather than relying on something as variable as the filename. As to the formatting oddities, that's just ...

Re: Beginner to BTW: Hardcore Buckets?

I guess my trepidation regarding Hardcore Buckets might be because deep down I am a bit of an obsessive control-freak, and not being able to have full control over the functioning of liquids in the game is a little scary. But then again, maybe that could be what makes it fun This was my experience,...

I can recommend the seed Visions . You'll spawn in the middle of an ocean on a smallish island. Its salient features are a single tree, some clay under the water, a nice bluff for haning a windmill off of, another island to the northwest...and a massive, partly-flooded, very deep cave system accessi...
