Re: My Playthrough

DAY EIGHT Breaking down the barricade, I step onto the road, reseal the door, and head into the house across the street. I begin by stripping out the floor of oak and stone and dig down a bit further so that the new floor is now two meters below the frame of the doorway. There are a few spots of sto...

Re: BTW - Video Series List and Discussion Thread

Does anybody know what happened to SergeantSlate's channel? I can't find it. I'm hoping he just changed the name.

Re: Squid Fighting Tips

Yeah, I confirmed that squid will not use their pull if you're in water, one block or more. I chugged some night vision and dove into the river. One stack of ink sacs later, I never got pulled.

I didn't test isaac's thing though. That sounds like a bug.

Re: Squid Fighting Tips

Wow, Sandrew. If that's the case, then maybe the best course of action is to just jump in and fight them. They don't deal much damage. Most of their threat is weighing you down.

Will they not pull you even if you're head is above the water? Or do you have to be submerged?

Re: Squid Fighting Tips

Thanks, Mesh. Good tips.

But is it even possible to get respiration pre-anvil? I have yet to get one on my helmets.

Squid Fighting Tips

So, I've learned a few things that I think might be helpful to others. First off, something that might be a massive spoiler as I don't remember seeing anyone mention this. However, I can see this seriously screwing an early game player, so I suggest you read it. Never, ever, EVER: Parry a squid. You...

Re: My Playthrough

DAY SIX I smile, as I always do, at the sound of the sun purging the monsters from this world. I wait for the silence that tells me its work is finished and open up the barricade. With the prospect of a green one destroying my home still fresh on my mind, I rush out of the house and down the road to...

Re: My Playthrough

Thanks! Note: I'm going back and editing my previous days. There are some differences beyond simple grammar. Things happening differently, better explanations of stuff. Different explanations of stuff. That sorta thing. But anyway, day five: I travel to the pine forest again, searching further for f...

Re: Secondary bases

That's really impressive. I like those pillars underneath the desert area. I don't know how you managed to extend the water that far underneath it, though. I decided to just go all-out at the nearest populated village. It's been fun. I've got all of the pre-anvil tech set up with a building for each...

Re: Future of BTW?

Snip -Flower

Sorry, I had to say it. But it fixes the problem with wood punching being un-fun without compromising the progression of the stone axe, or the time crunch, and doesn't require any new features.

Re: Future of BTW?

Well, you are correct that punching wood is one of many features giving death consequence, but with this one there's the additional factor here in that the wood punching places time pressure on your first day (whether first first, or respawn first), and thus on the local food supply. Ideally, I wou...

Re: Future of BTW?

I've given it a lot of thought and given you said it was an interesting discussion, I think the wood punching is unnecessary. It serves its purpose, true. It makes death suck that much more and makes you fear the consequences of your mistakes. However, there are a lot of things that must be done fol...

Re: Future of BTW?

Oh. Yeah, I missed some things for sure. I'm very sorry to hear about FC's health. I've always had a deep amount of respect for him as a game designer. I'm not sure where you got that the device wouldn't be a thing *because* of RTH, though. Also, I've never expected a "steady string of updates&...

Re: My Playthrough

Day Four: I wait for the silence that tells me the evil has been forced from this world and climb out of the cave. I leave the humble shelter intact knowing I would likely be foolish enough to require it again, and head home. Crossing the plains, I see no wildlife. Of course. I’m not the only predat...

Re: Future of BTW?

It's funny you say that. Acquisition of SFS has always been my favorite part of the mod and I'm really itching to get up to it again. Early game is actually the part I don't like. Well, aspects of it. Namely, punching a tree for two minutes straight. After getting your first stone axe, it's pretty f...

Re: Secondary bases

Yeah, tin. I used to love the jungle till spiders got added. I don't know how to deal with them. I miss my jungle treehouse bases. :( Also, I think I'm going to largely abandon my current base and move to the village. It's in a desert so it will be nice to not have to worry about storms anymore. Dow...

Re: Hardcore Nether Animals Discussion (Spoilers)

I know all of the effects. I'm not going to experiment with villagers. Cows seem to be the only useful one and that seems debatable given squid are already farmable.

Anyway, the periodic safe house thing is a cool idea. I might do that. But villagers are slow...

Re: Hardcore Nether Animals Discussion (Spoilers)

That's a LOT of torches. Before HcDark, I might have slabbed a tunnel with the resources i'd get, anyway. I dunno... maybe a massive, manual kiln system for charcoal. Still, the mining itself would take ages cuz of stratification. Have you actually done that? That would be insanely impressive. --edi...

Secondary bases

So, I'm mostly just curious what other guys do when it comes to secondary bases. Where do you guys generally build secondary bases? Village bases seems obvious, but do you guys also build at an overworld fortress, or just the end? How much infrastructure do you put in these bases? Do you go full-out...
