Re: BTW Feature Wrapup - Passing the hat
After looking at how much I've been playing BTW and BTSM, I realized last week I needed to better express my thanks. Have a few on me!

Re: Hardercore of Darkness spoiler thread [SPOILERS]
This is going to change my priorities a lot after dying if I spawn in a new area, especially if it's new moon and raining: light will have to come before food.

Re: The BTSM/BTW divide
I play both. And I suck at both: in BTW I've finally managed to reach windmill stage, and I'm starting my search for diamonds (just to get netherhack: using lava to light wood blocks to cook food in a cauldron barely does the job). In BTSM, I'm still trying to get a kerbal in orbit (I can put stuff ...

Re: Better Than Starting Manned (Flower's WIP KSP mod )
However, if you also use them, which I think would be a fairly common thing to do, to say for example cap a bunch of short boosters at the bottom of your rocket, what that will serve to do if I am understanding the system correctly (which isn't a given considering how messed up it is), is to destab...

Re: Better Than Starting Manned (Flower's WIP KSP mod )
Regarding FAR: does it make the learning curve much steeper? In particular, is it possible to play BTSM + FAR without having played vanilla + FAR?
(While I'm at it: thanks a lot for BTSM. I had not played KSP for about a year, and BTSM has made it fun again!)

Re: Hardcore Spawn - Jungles
I'm not sure it happens with every spawn point, but there is one for me in the jungle that comes back quite often. (In fact, I've been spawning there often enough to get a small base going, with some cocoa beans growing and a path across a sea to another biome.)

Re: Jungle Survival [possible spoilers]
Thank you for your post, I was about to ask the same thing. I have recently been sent to a jungle after a death, and I decided to try it there. The reason is that the only alternative is a taiga across a big chunk of water, but getting there consumes too much food and there are no animals left (exce...

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week of July 22nd)
I wouldn't call them games, but rather development builds with incrementally increasing amounts of gameplay that will allow people to have some fun in the meantime, with perhaps a little more attention paid to immediate playability than what you would traditionally expect. Beyond that, more details...

Does hardcore spawn change the way you play?
I've noticed that I've slowly changed how I play because of hardcore spawn. Before, when I died, my first goal was to rush back to where I had died to try to get back what I was carrying at that time. But with hardcore spawn, this is no longer possible. Instead, building a chest is very high on my l...

Re: Hardcore Headwear SPOILERS
I had my first encounters with the hats ... Note to self: do not hunt animals too close to the shore when it's raining. I managed not to panic and killed the first one, but it had brought a friend along. It was my demise. So now I just respawned in the middle of a jungle, it's still raining and past...

Re: Is strip mining viable?
I'm also in the early branch/strip mine camp. When you are short on coal, every single torch counts so for maximum efficiency I end up digging out a slowly expanding cluster of cylinders stretching from the bottom of the dirt layer to the beginning of the midlevel strata with a single torch in the ...

Re: Incredibly useful early-game builds
As far as I can tell, Monsters don't recognize trapdoors as valid paths. Which sucks because you can't use them in, you know, TRAPS. Of course I might be entirely wrong: I haven't run extensive tests or checked the code. I simply have never observed a monster stand on a trap door in my entire Minec...

Re: HC Spawn observation
I've been dying quite a bit (on normal biome setting), and this made me change how I play. Initially, I would spend a while looking around, trying to see if I could recognize the landscape. I can't count the number of times where I thought I recognized it, to end up losing too much time and dying of...

Re: Incredibly useful early-game builds
Make a trench two blocks wide and put one trap door on the far side and one the near side. Close them to cross and open them to secure the base. My trench is only two deep and sometimes zombies fall in and tear the trap door off simply out of spite. <gollum voice>Nasty zombies I hates them to piece...

Respawning underground
Hello, I have hardcore spawn on, and after my latest death (hungry wolves seem to be the only mob I have trouble handling), I have respawned underground. As I was starting to suffocate, I dug the dirt right in front of me, and after digging some more I saw some stone, but from a deep strata. So I gu...

Re: 4.69 Gameplay Balance Discussion Thread
I cannot comment on the later parts of the tech tree, as I keep dying, but there is one thing you achieved with hardcore spawn that I really like: one starts over when dying, but one starts over in the same world. This give a dwarf fortress feel to the game: losing (dying) is fun (HC hunger and tool...

Re: New Release! (BTW 4.65) [*** NO SPOILERS ***]
This release is so much fun! I started a new world (even though I had finally managed to get a blaze rod in my old one), and it feels like the good old minecraft. I love how I just had to choose between crafting a hoe or a sword (the hoe won), the feeling of accomplishment when having torches, and t...

Re: New Release! (BTW V4.60)
This is great, thanks a lot! As a way to find villages, I accidentally discovered one. You die, a lot, with hardcore spawn on. You get to explore a lot of the world that way. Which just made me realize: this make hardcore spawn even more interesting. Even if I know where I end up (I have died a lot,...

Re: New Release! (BTW V4.54)
But come on guys, this is minecraft. There is little that cannot be solved with several stacks of cobble and a few pickaxes. Assaulted by wither skellies? Block them and hit their legs. Blazes? You can always tunnel. As for farming rods, I generally build a wall in the entrance of the first blaze s...
