Re: MineFantasy

I don't think it's the kind of mod that's *supposed* to lend itself to automation - there's always stuff like BTW or TC3 for that. However, MineFantasy seems like a mod that could work great with another mod that adds some RPG elements to the game, perhaps Millenaire or Tale of Kingdoms. I've been t...

Any of you guys tried Gnomoria? It's also a DF knockoff, but it seemed to do a better job at first glance.

Re: The BTW vs RP conflict: a historical approach

Yes, of course the functionality provided is different. However, the pattern is largely this: Eloraam creates new functionality based on similar *base* concepts, and uses a similar *visual* design to draw comparisons with what exists in other mods. I've never bitched about Frames being a "rip ...

Re: Why would people want compatibility ?

Unfortunately, Forge failed as a mod API suitable for BTW, and Minecraft *still* hasn't made a mod API. The game is probably better for not sticking with Forge because it meant FC didn't have to mess with compatibility and politics. Not to be "that guy" more than once this thread... BTW s...

Re: Why would people want compatibility ?

Part of the reason BTW tried being a part of Forge way back when was because a degree of compatibility would be nice for players, right? The whole idea of modding is to customize the game for yourself a bit. There are even some addons for BTW. Consider that there are some mods out there that could p...

Re: The BTW vs RP conflict: a historical approach

I never got around to experimenting with them, but as best as I can tell, it seems like RP frames are a fair bit different from BTW platforms. Frames seem to be for generally moving blocks around - people have made drilling rigs and such with them. I also think the mods that got 'ripped off' the har...

Re: What is BWF?

This has been a strange affair. BTW is the first MC mod that really had enough in it for me to consider breaking into my .jar and assaulting it with hemp, windmills, and awesomeness, so every time I see BTW embroiled in controversy or being fucked over, I am filled with the sadness of a thousand dyi...

Re: Tekkit v. BTW

I'll admit I had fun building a computer-controlled actively-cooled nuclear reactor with BC/IC2. I like the part of IC that involves managing electrical current. Of course, I made some Quantum bullshit and then I was mostly done with it. Railcraft is pretty internally balanced as well, but it does m...

Re: Toggleable sprint

Was the alt-trick broken at some point? I've always done this:

While holding crouch, press alt, game freezes, release crouch, press alt again, game is on, and you're locked into crouch. Press crouch again to release. I've done the same for long walks too.

Re: Indie games worth checking out!

There was a game made back in 2001 called StarTopia that was of similar style. Made be ex-bullfrog employees (and eidos) apparently and in memory of Douglas Adams. Contains quite a few references to Hitchhiker's and A Space Odyssey, it was quite a fun game but for me sadly lacked re-playability. It...

Re: Endgame Dilemma

I have never killed the Endragon. I guess finishing the portal always seemed like a waste of time distracting me from my construction projects, and I've never really been interested in collecting Endstone. Basically, it's a dimension that does even less than the original Nether did. If I want to kil...

The wiki was causing performance issues and Bluehost temporarily took down the site until I got it fixed. I've updated MediaWiki and disabled an extension that may have been causing the problem, so we'll see if it's fixed over the next day or two. I also plan on updating the forum, so it'll be disa...

Thanks man. I really appreciate that. As I've said elsewhere, I'm a total dictator when it comes to the mod's design, but I'm a benevolent one ;) I've even seen you listen to your dread lieutenants once in a while. The important thing here is that you know the distinction between gameplay that's me...

Re: An Explanation of Many "Hardcore" Changes

One of the things I observed in early Minecraft was that the gameplay that emerged was more fun than the gameplay that was added to the game. Some of the most fun I had with the game was by using things that could have been considered 'bugs' or 'exploits' but that were later codified into the game. ...

Re: Hardcore Bedding Thoughts and Showcases

Having played since Alpha, I have fond memories of running with the zombies in the middle of the night, so I know what that gameplay is like. I know how useful beds can be, and almost always build a rail in my games, so I know how those things factor into gameplay. Things this does to gameplay: * Ma...

Re: Another indie game that may or may not be a MC ripoff.

Dude, come on, I really *like* Terraria, and I've always found the above statement to be laughable. In many ways, it's even setup as a homage to MC with such obvious similarities even in the details that the author was obviously paying intentional tribute to the game he was imitating. I agree there...

Re: Another indie game that may or may not be a MC ripoff.

It's not a Minecraft ripoff any more than Minecraft is a Dwarf Fortress / Infiniminer ripoff. And I understand why they stopped development - they're working on Starbound. Wanderlust was kinda crap though. It's unusual that Minecraft *has* continued development. It's a bit entitled of players to ass...
