Re: AI War II

HAHAHA. This level of coincidental timing... awesome.

...Or is it a coincidence? Secretly logorouge and I are actually fronts for AI 1 and AI 2... :p

AI Wars 2

I know there are at least a couple Arcen Games fans lurking on this forum, so for anyone who currently isn't aware I thought I'd make mention: Arcen Games just started a KickStarter for AI Wars 2. So far, from skimming the (incredibly detailed) design document and checking out the KickStarter video,...

Re: Tripwires sometimes being activated by items?

Couldn't you avoid that problem by having the tripwire be the top block and the piston be the bottom block?

Re: Dawn of war 3

Trailer was really weird. Also a little disappointed there is no tyrannids.

That said, I really enjoyed Dawn of War II and heard a lot of good things about the first one, so put me down for hesitantly looking forward to it.

Re: Noah Caldwell-Gervais: In-Depth Game Analysis on YouTube

It's always a nice touch when games give you that little bit of emotional freedom. Definitely feel significantly more invested a game that does "hold F" than "press F'. Two of those moments that immediately jump to mind are Jackie sharing a quiet moment with his girlfriend in The Dark...

Re: The Souls series

I definitely got through DS1 with fairly minimal outside help. The only thing I think I had to look up was how to get to Blighttown, and plenty of people figure that out without needing a guide. DS2 was similar, although I have to give that game a bit of crap for giving you absolutely no clue at all...

Re: The Souls series

I usually end up killing her anyway because I am a horrible person and always kill Gwendolyn. But killing her by accident before you open the final shortcut there has got to be rough. That greatsword is one of my favorite weapons in the whole game. I basically always play superheavy knights. My firs...

I actually got stuck on my first playthrough (no master key) trying to find that same door, and had to look it up. Good to know I'm not the only one who found it easy to miss. xD

Re: The Souls series

Can you skip Blighttown? I don't see how. You can't skip the entirety of Blighttown, no, but you can skip the entire vertical part which is the nightmare region. The swamp at the bottom is not nearly so bad. From Firelink Shrine, take the elevator down to New Londo. But instead of going there, head...

Re: The Souls series

Heh, yeah, very insightful. I agree with you, but I wouldn't have thought of that myself. I did have a very similar experience with the first game, though. My first time playing it I only played it for a few hours and really didn't enjoy it very much. Then I picked it back up a month or so later, an...

Re: The Souls series

I'm going through Dark Souls 3 right now. I'm pretty ready to declare it the best of the Dark Souls games - it has the interesting and unique bosses from the first, plus a lot of the quality-of-life improvements of the second. Plus thanks to the new magic system playing a mage is now hard mode, rath...

Re: Game Design - Incremental Games

That made me completely crack up laughing, Flower. :D Yeah, I recognize the appeal of these sorts of games - I guess if Kingdom of Loathing qualifies I've even gone there before - but in general I don't feel like they provide a real substance to their gaming experience. All frosting, no meat... not ...

Re: Windows 10

My experiences with Windows 10 have all been positive. In particular, upgrading from Windows 7, it has vastly better dual-monitor support (although I understand 8 does, too; I never touched 8). Another feature I noticed that blew me away, as a subtle but obvious thing: If you make a shortcut, and th...

I just bought a bunch of games from Bundle Stars and that worked out fine. Don't really have much experience with it other then that, though.

Re: Early Access. Your experiences.

I'll chime in and say that while Ark definitely has some problems, that hasn't stopped me from dumping 150 hours into it so far. I'd say at least give it a chance and try to ignore the people who are hating on it. It has bugs that will probably never be fixed, sure, but there is still fun to be had ...

Re: Some gorgeous (custom) Minecraft terrain

I would hope that an artist that skilled makes more than the US average hourly wage... :)

I mean, I know people in the tech support business who charge $35/hour or more, and I feel like that is less skilled labor than artwork of that quality.

Gorgeous maps, by the way.

Re: Mobile survival games?

Terraria is an action platformer, not really in any way a survival game past the first half hour-ish, so if that is what you were looking for it's definitely gonna be a disappointment. :) Personally I've yet to find much in the way of decent survival-style mobile games. Out There is good, and if you...

Re: This mod is still as awesome as ever!

By skipping entire portions of the game you are basically cutting out the part of BTW that gives you the sense of accomplishment from flourishing in the face of adversity. I completely agree. I wouldn't play BTW if I didn't, that is the entire philosophy that I like so much. And when I play single ...

It did not harm our overall play experience but rather enabled it; the person I was playing with had no fun at all playing by herself. Yes, we did test this. :)

Re: This mod is still as awesome as ever!

How we dealt with it at the time was to cheat, basically; we used tp to overcome hardcore spawn. It just didn't fit with our desire to play together. That said, for a slightly less cheating way to handle it: When one person dies, the other person puts everything they are carrying into a chest (or fo...

Re: Exposed spoilers will bring swift death. The Force Awake

For me, it's not so much specific technologies disappearing as it is the completely different feel of the technology in the prequels verses the original series. The technology in the prequels felt, if anything, 40 years more advanced, instead of 40 years older. The whole time I was expecting some g...

Re: Exposed spoilers will bring swift death. The Force Awake

Han's comment that he didn't believe in Jedi fits exactly with his portrayal in A New Hope (he doesn't believe in the Force when Obi-Wan tells him about it, remember?). It seems like Force Awakens is more or less quietly pretending the prequel trilogy never happened, which I think is a good thing. ...

Haven't done this myself, but I think in theory you can use wolves to sort skeletons from witches - I believe skeletons flee from wolves. Saw that mentioned somewhere, at least. Don't quote me on it until you test it yourself. :)

Re: Exposed spoilers will bring swift death. The Force Awake

I definitely also really enjoyed the lightsaber battles. At first I was thinking "man, these are terribly choreographed, they are really bad compared to other fights we've seen." And then it clicked - no, these are brilliantly choreographed: The people fighting are really bad compared to ...
