Re: original spawn chunks

perhaps the same thing that causes monsters to spawn also causes growth in plants. I don't really see this as being inconsistent with the rest of the game, just because the original spawn chunks are loaded does not imply that they should function as other loaded chunks, it is the presence of the pla...

Re: Surgeon General's Warning: Early Access May be a Scam

I think early access is great thing for developers but can also be harmful in the sense that it can be difficult to get players to come back to the game after it updates. I get excited about early access games but I avoid buying them unless I hear a lot of good things about them from sources I trust...

Re: First Iron Tool: Pick or Hoe?

I go for a pick because I usually get enough iron to make another pick or a hoe or both very quickly after getting my first pick. my second tool is usually a hoe so I can get hemp going. I've never really found a sword that necessary mainly because I mine very cautiously (dirt walls cover up every p...

Re: Jungle balance discussion (SPOILERS)

I was living on the border between a jungle and desert.
I built a pathway through the jungle (which is a real pain by the way)
and I am very glad I did. The new speed on leaves is awful.
I haven't really noticed the changes that make the jungles more dangerous though.

I wouldn't say that vanilla minecraft's tone was ambiguous, at least not back when you started making this mod. The primary reason I liked your mod above all others when I first started using it was that it was the only mod I had found that seemed to be natural addition to vanila minecraft. a lot of...

I was looking for a spider that was making lots of noise outside my house. turns out he was behind me so I turn and fight with stone axe #128 when I am attacked from behind by his friend who snuck up on me. stone axe #128 broke and I began fumbling for stone axe #129 when the spider finally killed. ...

How much is a lot of fish?

I fished for two nights in a row, the first night I got 7 fish and in the second night I got 8 fish. this seemed like a lot of fish to me because if I could get that much fish every night then fishing would actually be a fairly sustainable food source as long as I didn't go caving every day. I reali...

Re: Creative freedom in BTW and Minecraft [design discussion

I find that creativity only really comes when constraints are laid. if you don't put any limitations on creation, then creating becomes easy and worthless. Monty python is a prime example of how constraint can breed creativity. they had about the crappiest budget imaginable but they were still able ...

Re: Walls!

I dont have any pictures but a simple wall design that I like is to have a block topped by a pane (like iron bars) topped by a half slab of some sort. It doesnt make for anything big but its a nice substitute for using a fence and it keeps spiders out most of the time.

I like to start in forest biomes. I deforest the forest, and once all the trees are gone the landscape is actually fairly flat. I chop down trees as I need them, so essentially as I build more, more land is opened because I have to chop down trees to get materials to build (well, usually, I dont alw...

I find that the hunger bar is quite effective when your just starting out and dont have any farms. especially since I try to avoid killing animals until I have a wheat farm to replenish the animal supply with. But once you get your first farm up and running the hunger bar becomes obsolete.
