Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
I have to agree with Dawnraider about the new wireless redstone thing. To me, it seems like Mojang feels obligated to give players new and more powerful toys to play with every now and then, but they fail to really gate the new features behind anything meaningful. With what they've shown so far, the...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
I feel obligated to comment on the "Bad Omen" debuff you get when you kill an Illager patrol captain. I find it interesting that it encourages players to set up bases further away from villages lest you incur a raid just by going back to where you set up. At most, if your main base is insi...

Re: Invisible Hostile Mobs on Non-Hardcore Spawn
I'm sorry this isn't very helpful, but I did want to corroborate this. Version eeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I witnessed it last night while watching a roommate play; he died at night, respawned, and was then killed again by an invisible skeleton. He's using a copy of my install, so I don't think that's the iss...

Re: Invisible Hostile Mobs on Non-Hardcore Spawn
It might just be a problem with my hardware then, my computer isn't exactly state of the art. I'll try tweaking some of the video settings to see if it reduces the problem.

Invisible Hostile Mobs on Non-Hardcore Spawn
Doing my first run through of the latest version (4.AAAAAHHHHHHeeeee) and I've encountered a visual bug of sorts. I'll die during the night to hostile mob attacks, but the game will have decided that I didn't last long enough to give me a hardcore respawn. I'll respawn in the same general area, but ...

Re: Stellaris 2.0 Cherryh Due 22 Feb
I've been deliberately avoiding playing Stellaris for a while now simply because I heard about the update. I can't wait to actually have things like front lines, chokepoints, and defensive stations that actually do something.

This looks absolutely amazing. I've been a fan of Zachtronic's games ever since I played The Codex of Alchemical Engineering on Kongregate. It looks like he took the base concept of that game and made it into something more. I can't wait to get my hands on it. Thanks for sharing this!

Re: Better than Wolves Measurements
The problem I have with including the source block in the measurement is that if your water stream is going to go down multiple levels and you're waiting until the water can go no further before dropping it down a level then you might get some confusing math. For instance, if you include the source ...

Re: Better than Wolves Measurements
For the distance that water will flow, I'd like to propose simply calling that seven block distance a "flow" or "flow-length". It's simple and it evokes what it's measuring. As for buoyancy I'm not sure what the term should be but I think it should be a value ranging from 1-7 ind...

Re: Sci fi and love
If you have Netflix, give Stranger Things a try. I enjoyed it. Ditto. My mom and I started watching it the day it came out and I can't recommend it highly enough. We actually limited ourselves to one episode a day which, personally, I enjoyed more than the idea of binge watching it. I can't wait fo...

20 Lessons from Magic: The Gathering's Head of Design
Part of the reason I still follow this mod, even if I don't play it as much as I used to, is because I love hearing FlowerChild talk about game design. Since listening to interviews of him and studying some of his forum posts on his design decisions and the current state of vanilla Minecraft and the...

Wouldn't it be fairly simple to just add it back into the resources folder if worst came to worst?FlowerChild wrote:So far the only one I've discovered that is missing, and not just renamed, is that old explosion sound.
And yeah, it wasn't a very mod friendly move for them to do that.

I only ever played the original thaumcraft so I never got to make use of the research system, but seeing what it's going to become in TC3 is really exciting. For once I'll actually be able to discover things instead of having to go find a wiki and end up surfing the entire thing by accident as I obs...

Re: Likely changes to F3 and its implications
I think one thing last thing that wasn't discussed much in the other thread was the problem of finding other people's bases. For example, in the past we could just whisper the coords of our base to someone we wanted to lead there. However, with f3 out of the picture, this will become incredibly dif...

Re: MC Speculation: About dimensions and darkness
But mobs don't spawn on bedrock, which makes it even more confusing. Perhaps they ooze an excess of darkness, like the way oxygen is needed for many lifeforms, but too much is also bad. Hmm . . . maybe souls cause free radicals . . . Since when do they not spawn on bedrock? Pretty sure that they ca...

Re: Welcome to Edolas (Server information)
I'd like to join in on this as well if only because of the system for whitelisting you have in place. I don't like playing on servers where people only play casually and don't put any heart into their builds, and this seems like a very good system for weeding those people out.

Re: FlowerChild's Dev Diary (week of September 24th)
Hearing all this talk about celestial navigation makes me wish there was some way to navigate using stars, but they change depending on the seed. Still, I missed the days when Minecraft was tamed through maps and markers, not minimaps or F3. Also, I know for a fact that compasses were really glitch...

Re: Ender Spectacles spoiler thread.
So does this mean that torches posses the ability to strengthen these weeks spots? or is it light that does it? So suddenly magic torches or light strengthens weaknesses in time and space preventing monsters from teleporting to that spot with the exception of endermen? That's what I've been wonderi...

Re: FlowerChild's Dev Diary (week of September 24th)
Also, keep in mind that compasses point to *magnetic* north, not true north. There's no reason why the magnetic pole needs to be the same as the rotational, even if the world were spherical, and there are a ton of cool possible explanations as to why that might be the case. What if the MC world has...

Re: Ender Spectacles spoiler thread.
Hm... Does this mean that endermen are/will be limited in where they can teleport to by light levels? Well according to FC, the areas highlighted by the specs can only spawn mobs because they're weak spots in space-time and that's why ordinary hostile mobs can spawn in. The thing is though, none of...
