Re: A simple way to keep mobs at bay.
Just confirmed spiders WILL climb the trap door when down. Still don't know about climbing the up state, but I've started being more diligent about folding them up. Even if Jon fixes the creeper path thing, a few cats under the porch keep the creepers at bay. I'm doing this anyway, b/c cats. Gods I ...

Yeah. I sometimes wonder if that feature should be removed. It's just a cheat for shitty pathfinding.

A simple way to keep mobs at bay.
So I figured out a way to keep mobs out of my starter hut. http://i.imgur.com/Nxvir.png That's the hut. http://i.imgur.com/G6f1G.png That's me using the trap doors as stairs into my house. http://i.imgur.com/ZICjM.png And that's a confused zombie, who can't figure out how to get at me. My original p...

Yeah, but you can't wander away, or the standing wolves teleport to you.

Seriously, it took me more time to get that right than to get my infinite pottery setup working, and not just because creative mode. It curves around it's profile as well as it's radius.

Well if I think of anything else (other than minecart clocks, which practically no one uses), I'll put it here. Otherwise, I think we're done.

Oh yeah, railcraft. I forget sometimes that other mods exist. I suppose I should have looked around to see if any other mod does this.

Re: Windmill Aesthetics?
Yeah. Turbines are going to be Soooo much easier to build now that stair blocks can go upside down. That one is done all using BTW blocks and let me tell you, it was days of work and an entire ream of graph paper to make that work.

Re: Minecart tracks that slow you without coming to a stop
Yeah, I was hesitant to suggest the soul-sand thing, both because it's kinda a recipe suggestion (big no-no) and because I want to focus on the added functionality. But I did want to broach the idea of introducing the function by block arrangement instead of making a new type of track, so I included...

Re: Timers, clocks and pulse generator collection
I've seen a few cobweb+mob timers, but seeing as you can't harvest cobwebs even with silk touch, the only way to build one outside of creative would be to carefully set one up in a found location. This is highly impractical, but I thought I'd mention it for completeness. Also for completeness, techn...

Minecart tracks that slow you without coming to a stop
It was suggested in another thread that this deserved it's own thread. One of the things I'd like is a way to slow down without stopping. Right now an unpowered booster rail stops your minecart at max speed within a single space. If I want to simply slow down, I have to angle up, which isn't always ...

One of the things I'd like is a way to slow down without stopping. Right now an unpowered booster rail stops your minecart at max speed within a single space. If I want to simply slow down, I have to angle up, which isn't always feasible. I'd like something that cuts current speed in half. That woul...

OK, yeah, the brick mold.
Can you farm the crops now? The last time I played Millenaire I couldn't plant any of them.

Re: Thoughts in Millenaire with BTW
Millenaire items aren't craftable, as such. You have to trade with towns to get them.
So set up an automatic cobble generator, and trade them stacks of the stuff.

If you do that, you have to make sure both pulleys activate at exactly the same time. I know it may go without saying, but I ran into some problems with this recently.

Re: A solid block that thinks it is a beam
Basically you are asking for a solid block that lets a beam through. The problems with this from a technical standpoint are numerous, and FC went into them in the original Lens discussion thread, when talking about why it doesn't shine through glass. But I'd like to point out that it won't do what y...

Given the choice between performance issues and using a crap-ton of lenses to do something one lens can do, I think I'll take the performance hit.

I'm glad to see the 2-lens version works. I'm really adverse to building devices that use too many lenses, detector blocks, and block dispensers in my survival world.

I didn't "find" those. I *Made* those. That's my thesis project from architecture school. I was just really amused by how much it fit the description Morv had for her project.Andellmere wrote:And we could use the picture Anarchitect found as a very rough draft before 'cubing' it.

Re: vMC Philosophy: Utility vs Aesthetic?
Frankly, because we already have a shit-ton of RPG titles. And no matter what they add to minecraft, it will never be as good an RPG as Skyrim, or even WoW. What Minceraft has that those other titles don't is the construction aspect, and it's the construction aspect that has attracted users and sold...
