Re: Subnautica - Feature complete release

I've been thinking of picking this up for a while, but I was just wanting to know what peoples opinions are (as well as whether people think this would be a decent game for me). I have a huge issue with survival games in general, partly because I don't like the goal of a game to be just survival. Ha...

Re: Soylent (But not green)

I have a european brand called Joylent that I quite like. I find that after doing the mixing, leaving it in the fridge overnight helps a lot to bring out the flavour and remove a lot of that grittiness. There is also an oaty flavour to whichever flavour you choose, but I eat porridge for breakfast s...

Re: Windows 10

I've had a few issues with Windows 10, mainly involving the start menu search. For me, it's just incredibly slow compared to Windows 8/8.1. I got used to just pressing the start key and searching, with instant results. Now, I have to wait for a few seconds for some reason or another (I have turned o...

Re: Jessica Jones

I binge watched it over the weekend, and just to say Gil (without any spoilers), it doesn't really follow the same formula as Daredevil in the slightest, and very little crossover material. So hopefully you'll enjoy a lot more than the first episode :)

Re: The Martian

The movie clearly stated that NASA had no given him permission and he had lost contact with them after leaving the Hab so they could not grant it before he arrived at the Ares 4 site. Don't remember if it actually worked out that way but they did cover the fact that he set out without that premissi...

Re: The Martian

Sean Bean is in this movie for more than one minute and doesn't even die :P That was certainly weird, made me wonder why they chose Sean Bean. Surely it couldn't just be for the fact that he would be a part of the council of elrond I bought the book when travelling and read it by the time I was bac...

Re: Ark

Yeah, you caught my drift. It's basically procedural animation, something we can actually handle in pretty complex ways in 2D (where volume is an entirely faked deal). I think it can already be useful in 3D in small doses, but then when you try to scale up, it'd probably look even more silly than t...

While we're reminiscing, I'll share the post that got me started down this crazy road almost exactly 4 years ago, and which wound up turning into the first version of the mod a couple of weeks later: http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/minecraft-discussion/survival-mode/220651-notch-wolves-are-a-b...

Re: Factorio: A game all about automation

I actually really enjoy playing it multiplayer, and I think it suits Factorio a lot better than other 'sandbox/survival' games. It allows multiple people to bring their own ideas into building the factories. We all have different ways of approaching problems: there are many different ways to build f...

Re: Factorio: A game all about automation

Have any of you guys played multiplayer yet? I tried with a work colleague of mine, and I was surprised at how stable it was. Ok, we had one... well, I don't know if you would call it a crash. The game 'froze' on each end, but the program was still running and allowed us to save on both sides and re...

It's interesting hearing what others are talking about, as this is something that's on my mind a lot about myself. I realise in myself that I'm looking for a challenge, and have been all my life. I've always followed the path to a supposed 'greater challenge'. Even now, I'm just starting a PhD to ge...

Re: Do you work in Computer Science? Wanna help me?

Of course, actually doing dev work for a living does put anyone in the "get shit done"-department. Fancy academic theories are fine, and sometimes useful, but in the end it's all a hack. ;) As someone who works in the academic area, this is so true. All of the stuff that gets me praise is...

I really like this game, although there is still a long way to go imo. The story tellers... aren't that good in my opinion. It's nice to see the constant updates to them, but from what I gather they seem to just generate a series of random events without really looking at your colony. You could just...

Re: Anyone here into Lua?

Soo, how do you make function calls by reference in C (lambdas, not c++!)? Just wondering. Function Pointers. I hate the syntax for them, but they exist. I've used them a bit when I've been coding some weird stuff for my job. I must be one of the few researchers in my area in the world that code in...

Re: Anyone here into Lua?

I tried out Lua with ComputerCraft for quite a bit, and as a primarily C/C++ programmer... I really got weirded out by a lot of things. Can't remember what exactly it was now, but I don't plan on going back to it anytime soon. If I choose to use a scripting language, I go straight to python :)

I also am one excited for this. I did play this back soon after it was released, just as they were making it free to play I believe based on how bad it was. The thing that stopped me playing was the UI. It was... horrific... Didn't they use a software mouse or something that lagged?

I was wondering if these would ever be officially enabled (mods have done so in the past for some of them). It's great that there are developers that understand that players like different things when it comes to their games and like customising their play experience. I was speaking to the developer...
