Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
Like, Mojang is making more than 'fuck-you' money. It's making "Let me buy a presidential election" money. Notch could be a billionaire today if he wanted to, just by selling Mojang (Sweden's extremely high tax rates aside)

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
Me too! I don't understand why such drastic development continues on the game after its release. It's almost as if Notch is paying an in house modding team, surely current sales cannot pay their wages? Sure they can man. MC is still selling a million units every few months. You can see it just sold...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
I don't think 'adventure mode' is a valid excuse for most of these changes, as there is already a magic block for adventure mode they can use to do most of this stuff.

Re: Moving bases in Minecraft
This makes me think it might be fun to have a mechanic in minecraft that eventually forces bases to be abandoned and salvaged, like the "fun stuff" in Dwarf Fortress.

Might want to also check for stuff like mob spawn rates. (Don't know if he actually did that, but I wouldn't assume that they ONLY do buffs).

I'd rather they made skeletons harder to shoot at range and zombies harder to melee, to be honest.

To be fair, in a lot of cases, ideas are trivial and its the implementation that's hard.

Re: Any way to make compact note block songs?
I was actually thinking the other day that they should make noteblocks analog (voltage changes the note played), which should make this easier.

Question -- is it possible to transmit information up and down losslessly with the comparator?

Re: Flower's Dev Diary (Week of December 31st)
So many people have slapped together minecraft clones at this point that I can't imagine it would take a huge amount of time to build one from scratch, especially since you have an endpoint in mind, unlike notch when he was creating it.

Lol! I will make every effort to do so, and also to provide as much detail as possible when it comes to various consistencies, uses, flammability, and of course buoyancy depending on source animal and diet ;) I'm sure you can fit this into the dung metadata. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_sto...

Re: Vanilla Minecraft News Discussion
That's essentially a digital to analog converter. It takes 4 binary bits and converts it into a redstone signal of the appropriate strength, which can then be put into a line of comparators that transmits it at that strength indefinitely. Then you can convert it back to digital at the other end.

So now I get the point of analog redstone:
Modems that will let you transmit 4 bits of info per tick.

the best designed minecraft blocks? (vanilla or mod)
I'm going to nominate the note blocks from vanilla. They managed to incorporate a huge variety of sounds without adding any extra UI. They aren't particularly useful, exactly, but they completely satisfied a basic function for a redstone system. They're also challenging to use correctly in a fun way...

I wish games would incorporate more metagame things into the game world -- saves and reloads, difficulty settings, and so on.

I don't actually have a problem with a non-backwards compatible version of BTW. People can always take a wait and see attitude to upgrading, and I'm sure as you keep developing the new version, people will hop on board.

Re: Mob Sorting
Interesting.
Well then you'd either you'd have to sort fairly quickly or there'd have to be some substantial benefit to mob sorting to make it worth while, aside from oddball uses like record farms, which there doesn't really seem to be any.
