It is easier to make exactly what you want. I'm saying that is bad. Aesthetics is no longer involves as many tradeoffs and compromises, it just becomes a matter of design.

Making things look good in Minecraft used to be a game, now it is moving towards being an exercise.

I don't like having so many decorative options. Being able to build whatever you want with no constraints is not as good as being able to make whatever you want but under some interesting constraints. That's what I do. Set up an ugly cube with a windmill on the side, and establish a temporary workshop. Then work on nice buildings for each station and move them out of the temporary structure one at a time, until I can tear it down, or turn it into a ruin.
