Nether Bricks are a type of block used to form Nether Fortresses in The Nether, and can also be recreated from the firing and crafting of Nether Sludge in a manner very similar to standard Bricks made from Clay. Nether Brick is non-flammable and immune to Ghast fireballs, making it a suitable shelter material for the Nether. Crafted Nether Brick blocks come in the form of Loose Nether Bricks, which are subject to gravity, while applying Mortar will turn them into their non-falling variants. All variants of Nether Bricks can be broken by hand or pickaxe to return them in their Loose variant forms, losing used mortar if any was used, and those loose blocks can be crafted back into the individual Nether Bricks without losses.
A pickaxe with the Silk Touch enchantment, or a Block Dispenser are the only way to obtain the mortared version of loose blocks, and use them for crafting.
